Waitamo Caves - New Zealand

Waitamo is a very small place, but full of caves (around 500) we could visit 3 of them. we loved the glow worm caves, although we found out that glow worms are not worms, but larvas and the glowing things are their stomachs....anyhow, unfortunately we could only take pictures in one of the caves, see here: http://further2travel.blogspot.com/p/waitamo-caves.html

Rotorua - New Zealand

It was very tricky to get there. The map reader did a wrong interpretation of the dotted road on the map and we landed on a unsealed road for 3 hours, very nasty when it is raining and nighttime...poor Adam, poor camper van....Rotorua is a good place to find out about Maoris traditional dances and habits. Apart from that Rotorua is famous for its hot fountains and hot pools. http://further2travel.blogspot.com/p/rotorua-new-zealand.html

Coromandel Peninsula - New Zealand

Thanks to a lady in the tourist info we discovered this beautiful spot. It was not easy to get there. The roads were unsealed and we even had a fallen tree blocking the road (Adam tries to remove it , see the picture) Nevertheless it was absolutely worth to go there: Even after one month in New Zealand we were still surprised to see something so stunning. All the colors were amazing: the lush green of the grass, the blue sky and the turquoise water...our campsite was directly on the beach. Look at the pics and get enchanted...http://further2travel.blogspot.com/p/coromandel-peninsula-north-island-new.html

Tongariro crossing - New Zealand

What an amazing place- active volcanoes, emerald volcanic lakes smelly sulphur(promise it wasn't me!) and lastly amazing vistas This area was used as the back drop for Mordor in the Lord of the Rings you can see why in the rest of the pictures here http://further2travel.blogspot.com/p/tongariro-crossing-north-island-new.html, this was my second attempt to do the Tonagariro 1 day crossing last time it nearly killed me literally.. that was 10 years ago- thanks bro for getting me to hospital in quick time. This time it wasn't going to stop me in my tracks as Uli knows all to well.

Abel Tasman National Park

New Zealand - Abel Tasman National Park : without any doubt one of our highlights so far. We did a 4 day trekking-kayaking tour in one of New Zealands most popular National Parks. Golden beaches, clear blue water and blue skies. We were lucky and could even observe some nice seal pups...the only scary thing was sleeping in a tent on lonesome beaches, that means a whole beach on our own,,,nearly on our own: one night we had a visitor (animal) who stole our rubbish bag....we didnt get that much sleep that night. More pictures are on the following page New Zealand Abel Tasman national park
